These new McCormick sauces are the foray by a locally based large company to produce an American style condiment for the Australian market. Rather than importing from their Grill Mates US range, McCormick Australia have just launched these two new sauce flavours, Kentucky Style Vintage Smokehouse BBQ Sauce & Tennessee Style Brown Sugar Bourbon Flavoured BBQ Sauce.
The rich and full bodied flavours of these sauces are definitely their strong selling points. If you’re not into an intense flavour burst to add to your favourite cut, please look away now.
Opening the lid of the Vintage Smokehouse flavour and catching a whiff certainly tickled the back of the nostrils. The red bell peppers, onion and garlic are prominent as is the vinegar, molasses and honey. Applied as a baste during cooking to a pound of chicken wings over a couple of hours, the result is a sticky and saucy coating of homemade goodness.
The Tennessee Style Brown Sugar Bourbon Flavoured BBQ Sauce is certainly a king hit in the flavour stakes. With 10% brown sugar added to the pungent mix of regulars tomato paste, vinegar, worcestershire sauce and spices including cinnamon and clove, this unique blend is not for the faint hearted. This offering works well as a marinade and a baste for practically anything you like. The rich flavours penetrate the cut and with a little more application during cooking, there’s a sugary shine to the finished product.
The versatility of these two sauces are also strong selling points.
Over a month of product testing, I applied these blends to numerous cuts and burgers as well as dips and they’re certainly a great addition to the pantry.
I did on occasion chop some fresh chilli and ginger to stir through the sauce for a bit of extra kick and also found that these bbq sauces were great as a next-day stir through to re-moisten yesterday’s bbq leftovers.
