The first low n’ slow barbecue competition in Queensland was held as part of the Brisbane BBQ Festival on 18th & 19th July 2015 in beautiful South Bank at the Wandering Cooks grounds on Fish Lane.
A special thanks to the Event Promoter Dominiqe Bird and his team for allowing the ABA to Sanction the event and for putting everything on the line to help support the low and slow barbecue scene in Australia.
Eight mighty teams from the sunny State squeezed into the tight competition arena and were on a level playing field with all meat supplied to teams from the one meat sponsor in Meat at Billy’s.
Twelve first time judges sampled some of the best competition barbecue going around including Pork Ribs, Lamb, Chicken and Beef and the results were exciting to witness.
|The Meat Sweats
|Double Barrel BBQ
|The Shank Bros
|BLVD Restaurant BBQ
|Smoke Kings BBQ
|Mile High Porkers
The might and power of The Meat Sweats was on show with an incredible display, winning three of the four categories.
The Smoke Kings BBQ took out the Lamb category which proved a real surprise packet with a vast array of cuts handed in and with four teams within five points of being the Runner Up in that category.
There was only one point separating The Meat Sweats and The Shank Bros in the challenging chicken category and only 138 points separated the entire field at the end of the total scores count across all categories.
The majority of the field had shown strong improvement in scores and in presentation across the board (compared to previous competitions).
The hard work and obvious practice really paid off for some including overall Runners Up, Smokin Sounds, who punched out solid scores across all categories.
Competition barbecue in Australia is on fire right now and we look forward to many more tight encounters in the near future.
