Round 13 of the Barbeques Galore Australian Barbecue Championships saw 15 new teams compete in their first ABA Sanctioned barbecue competition via the BBQ & Bluegrass Festival in Bangalow, NSW.
A big congrats to The Shank Bros for their maiden GC win at Bangalow.
With 45 teams eligible for a National Ranking in 2017 after this Round, a further 32 teams only have one more competition to make the rankings for next year.
The top placing is still deadlocked with Double Barrel BBQ & The Smoking Hot Bros, but BLVD Restaurant BBQ & The Shank Bros keep nudging away at their slimming lead. With a handful of teams still in the mathematical equations to take the top spot, the season isn’t over just yet.
With 2 competitions in Perth in September, Wingham & Creekside in October and the Kangaroo Valley comp in November, limited opportunities remain for the late scramble for points.
Competition barbecue in Australia is on fire right now and has come a long way in 2 short years. With 20 Teams competing in an ABA competition in 2014 to having 178 Teams compete in 2016 already, the growth in the ‘sport’ is real and it is spectacular.
